Astalak Residence II

Professional Work | In Collaboration With Vav Studio (Completed) [Lavasan - Iran - 2009 -2011]

The key approach in the design of Astalak Residence in Lavasan, a Tehran suburban district, is to study on how to transform the municipality regulations into forms, allow us arranging the programs, as well as offering spatial qualities and forming a new relationship with the unique landscape surrounding the project.

At first, the programs were scattered on the plot area based on the functions needed. Then we cut through this functional surface, four parallel strips along the topographical lines, bending the strips up and down to adapt to the site topography. This strategy, not only provided all the rooms with sufficient light and maximum view toward the Lavasan valley, but also shaped a landscape continuity, that connects all the rooms from outside and leads directly to the rooftop.

In contrast with the monotonous travertine envelope of the house, the interior spaces are painted in distinctive colours to  mark different spaces with individual characteristics. Vibrant colours distinguish the circulation and common spaces, while the bedrooms and private areas are covered by more modest colours.
